Beautiful grass-fed beef from St Brigid's Meadows, a certified organic farm on the ridge. Grass-fed beef is high in omega 3's and conjugated linoeic acid, both proven anti-carcinogens. Cows on their natural diet of grass forage are healthier and far less likely to harbor bacteria like E Coli O157H7, which is becoming increasingly common in feed-lot beef.
St Brigid's beef is available at the People's Food Coop in La Crosse and Hackberry's, the restaurant upstairs.
It is also often an economical choice to buy beef in bulk and direct from the farm. We have two breeds available, Jersey and Angus. Jerseys are a smaller breed with a high level of marbling and a rich, juicy flavor. Their meat is also higher in beta-carotene, giving the fat a yellow tint. Because of the high demand for our Jerseys, we rarely send this breed to the coop. But you can buy it direct!
Right now we have a half Jersey steer available for purchase in either half, quarter, or eighths for VERY low price of $3/lb plus processing.
Also available are smaller package deals of bulk meat (25lbs ground plus steaks, for example). Email above or call John at 452-3485 for more information.
