BUYER BEWARE "Come and get your trailer 19 foot" (Lakewood) $3000  ...more
Below this posting you will see a posting for a 1990 Yukon 19 foot trailer located in Lakewood priced at $3000. The headline words are "Come and get your trailer 19 foot." It is posted two or three more times earlier on using different headline wording.

I called on this 1990 Yukon 19 foot trailer yesterday. Since I live in Spokane and the trailer is in Seattle, I asked some very specific questions, such as: "Is there any damage on the outside?" Answer. . .No no the outside is perfect. "Is there any damage on the inside?" Answer. . .No the inside is also perfect, my daughter has asthma and so no one has ever smoked inside, there are no water leaks and no mold. "Does everything work on the trailer?" Answer. . ..Yes everything works. It is a great trailer and I don't want to sell it, but I need the money. "Is it nice enough for me to drive 350 miles to see it?" Answer. . .Yes yes you will love the trailer, I just wish I didn't have to sell it..

Upon arriving I quickly found the following: The tongue jack was bent, as well as the mounting surface. This can be seen in the photograph. There are two broken windows. The trailer is not winterized. The styrofoam insulation around the hot water heater was broken and about 25 percent of it was missing. The stripes on the outside of the trailer were badly faded and had major scratches on the left front. The window blinds and valance for the front and left side windows were missing. One of the dinette cushions had a broken zipper and was badly soiled, the rest of the upholstery showed wear. 5 or 6 of the cloth buttons on the front couch were missing. She admitted here that her grandson had pulled them off. The latch on the bathroom door was broken. When I tried to light the hot water heater, it flashed back burning the hair on my arm. I was stupid enough to try it twice more and both times it flashed back, I suspect a gas leak. Two plastic covers were missing on the front of the fridge. The deal breaker of this whole episode was two soft spots in the floor, one by the toilet and a 2' by 4' major soft spot under the front dinette. This spot is so bad that you could easily have punched thru with your fist and seen the street. This soft spot is inside the small access door just ahead of the wheels, shown in the photo. When I opened the oven I found 4 moldy sausages and 6 or so pieces of French toast, also moldy. I was so frustrated at this time that I didn't even look for evidence of mice. You can use your own judgment here. She admitted she had never used the heater and didn't know if it worked, I didn't even try. She said that when she got the trailer, the previous owner had put down a new carpet. Perhaps there were more soft spots in the floor. I am only guessing here, but the evidence does point that way.

The lady states in her posting that she has been flagged a few times and doesn't know why. I believe I know why, which is why I am doing this post. I feel that if who ever flagged her had written what I am doing here, I would have saved $120 in gas and 700 plus miles on my truck.

My reason for posting this is to possibly keep some first time trailer buyer who is a little naive and a lot trusting from spending $3000 on what is represented as a pristine trailer when it is actually a $1000 hunting trailer.

In deference to the lady selling the trailer, I think she has convinced herself the trailer is worth $3000, especially since that is the exact amount she needs. I think that two years ago when she bought the trailer it was very nice. However, each time we found something damaged in the trailer she apologized profusely and said that her grandchildren were rather rambunctious. I think that as things slowly deteriorated as a result of her grandkids, she just sort of shrugged it off and forgot about it. However, regardless of her intent she is still misrepresenting a $1000 hunting trailer as a pristine vehicle.

As I said above BUYER BEWARE. . .nuff said.
