BEWARE OF HANCOCK FABRICS..... (TACOMA, LYNNWOOD, & KIRKLAND)  ...more
BEWARE OF SHOPPING AT HANCOCK FABRICS. RECENTLY I SHOPPED AT THE LYNNWOOD STORE AND PURCHASED A BROTHER SEWING MACHINE, AND WHEN I GOT HOME AND OPENED IT, I REALIZED IT HAD ALREADY BEEN RETURNED, AND REPACKAGED WITH MISSING PARTS. WHILE THERE RETURNING IT, I OVERHEARD EMPLOYEES SPEAKING ABOUT SOME EMPLOYEES WHO HAD BEEN LAID OFF. NOT A SIGN OF GOOD THINGS.

AT ONE OF MY SEWING BEE MEETINGS, I BROUGHT THIS UP, AND WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE LADIES THAT SHE WAS AT THE STORE IN KIRKLAND AND SAW SOME STUFF THAT HAD STICKERS ON IT FROM SEARS THAT WERE COVERED UP WITH HANCOCK FABRICS STICKERS/TAGS. AGAIN, NOT A SIGN OF GOOD THINGS.

THEIR FABRIC SELECTION HAS GONE DOWNHILL IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, AND THEY SEEM TO HAVE MORE AND MORE HOME DECOR ITEMS AND CLOTHING ITEMS. KIND OF STRANGE FOR A FABRIC STORE. AND I HATE HOW THEY ARE SO PUSHY AT THE REGISTER TRYING TO SELL ME SCISSORS THAT I SIMPLY DO NOT NEED, AND WHEN I TELL THEM I DO NOT NEED THEM, THEY GO ON AND ON AND ON ABOUT THEM. AND THIS IS THE MANAGER DOING THIS.

I THINK THEY ARE HURTING FOR BUSINESS IN A SERIOUS WAY. THEY FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY A FEW YEARS AGO, AND CLOSED MANY STORES, INCLUDING THE STORE IN WEST SEATTLE AND GREENWOOD. NOW, I THINK THEY ARE IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE AGAIN. IT'S LIKE GOING INTO A LIQUIDATOR IN A WAY. THE STORE IS OFTEN MESSY, AND THEY ARE RUDE, SHORTHANDED, AND ONCE I CALLED TO SEE HOW MUCH A DRESS FORM WAS..................I WAS TOLD OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS, BUT TO JUST WATCH ONLINE, BECAUSE THEY HAVE COUPONS, AND THAT THINGS GO ON SALE. WELL, HELLO...........I WANTED A PRICE. I WENT TO PACIFIC FABRICS WHERE THEY WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO HELP ME. AND, THEIR FABRIC SELECTION WAS SOOO MUCH BETTER, THE HELP WAS FRIENDLIER, FASTER, AND THEY WERE APPROACHABLE. YES, I PAID A LITTLE BIT MORE, BUT THE QUALITY OF THE FABRIC IS BETTER, THE SERVICE IS BETTER, STAFF IS BETTER...............AND THEY ARE A LOCAL COMPANY!!

RE: Beware of Hancock Fabrics (Lynnwood/Kirkland/Tacoma.)  ...more
I have never been to the Tacoma Store, and I used to be a regular at the Greenwood Store, until it closed. It was sad to see it go. Now, I generally go to Lynnwood. Once in a great while I will go over to Kirkland. I have to agree that the stores have gone downhill in the past few years. Messier, more cluttered, higher turnover rate of employees, and very pushy at the registers if you can get them to wait on you. Generally have to wait forever to get waited on at the cutting table, and the lines are slow as can be. The older lady with the blonde hair and glasses just wants to gab and gab and gab. I have things to do, and my list doesn't include spending my day gabbing to you all day.

I've been in the store when the manager has been blatantly rude and disrespectful to the workers, yelling at them and saying things that are inappropriate for the work floor in front of or within ear shot. I was not impressed. I think that in general, the stores have gone downhill.

I have to also agree that there is more furniture, and gift/clothing type items that make little sense. If I am going to a fabric store, my premise is to make the items, not buy them pre-made. Very wierd. I also noticed that there always seem to be carts of stock in the aisle every time I go in there. My daughter said the same thing. Oh, and don't let me get started on that. She said that when she was in there with my grandkids, the gabby old blonde was mean and rude to the kids who were touching things in the kids crafting area. Well hello, it is a kids crafting area.

I'm about to just start shopping at JoAnn Fabrics and dabble occassionally at Pacific (due to the drive). However, I did hear thru the grapevine that Hancock Fabrics is just waiting for the lease to be up at the Lynnwood location for them to close that store next. Would not be surprised. I heard that from a very reliable source. Not impressed with Hobby Lobby's fabric selection. Other items yes, fabric no.
