Museum Quality Handcrafted Musical Miniature Carousel
Roger Moon 1986
This carousel was crafted by several artisans from Carmel, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Francisco, California. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind of art. A description follows:
The case housing the mechanical portion of the carousel is made of solid Brazilian rosewood.
The outside octagonal carousel case is made of Honduran mahogany.
The beveled glass on the doors is fitted without glue, nails or screws. The glass is wedged in by pressure-fitting pieces around it. This is craftsmanship at its best.
At the base of the cabinet is a drawer that, when pushed in, will open revealing a golden key sitting on a velvet cushion, which unlocks the cabinet. Once the cabinet is unlocked, there is a golden half-ring attached to the base that allows the carousel to be pulled out of the case for viewing if desired.
There is a large bell jar sitting within a golden ring, covering the carousel for protection.
The carousel has hand-carved miniature horses, which are replicas of the famous Denzel horses. There are two chariots; one is a lion and the other is a swan. There is incredible detail on each carved peiece. The poles passing through the horses are spiral and gold plated.
The floor of the carousel resembles wood planking. The center support is white, the top of which flares to a 45 degree angle. Recessed within it are rectangle, beveled mirrors with zirconium diamonds surrounding them.
The rounding board is carved from one solid piece of maple. There are six miniature oil landscapes paintings, with golden-faceted genuine ruby and sapphire stones above and beneath these pictures. Between the pictures are oval rope-beveled mirrors, etched with starbursts in the center. Surrounding the rounding board are miniature lights and there are miniature lights underneath the canopy similar to full-sized carousels. Between each light under the canopy is a tear-drop faceted crystal.
Above the rounding board is the canopy. The canopy is made of cast bronze which is highly buffed to a mirror finish. Atop the canopy is a miniature copper flag.
The music is provided by a 72-note Swiss movement. The selection is "Thieving Magpies" in three parts, composed by Rossini.
This is truly an elegant and beautiful creation for the discerning connoisseur of fine art.

Older than carved sofa by 20 yrs...I purchased this chair knowing it was of the highest quality and the aged owner said it was her grandmothers which dates it to the 1800's. I was told it and the Square block shaped walnut end table were special antiques...if so my oldest.
