Authenticated Lithograph hand-signed by the artist: Anna Lea Merritt 'Eve Overcome by Remorse', 1887 -- Etching on Japan paper, 13 1/8 x 18 7/8 in. Professionally framed.
About the Artist: Anna Massey Lea was brought up in Philadelphia but received most of her training in Europe, where she took private classes from male tutors in Florence, Dresden, Paris, and London, as women were barred from the most prestigious academies. She settled in London in 1870 and in 1877 married her teacher, the painting conservator and critic Henry Merritt, who died three months later. She was a prolific portraitist but also tried her hand at history painting, which often required depictions of the nude figure. In 1885, Merritt exhibited at London's Royal Academy a painting entitled 'Eve Overcome by Remorse' (location unknown), which was the model for this etching, the "diploma plate" she donated to the London Society of Etchers upon her election to its membership.
Merritt's major works include 'Taming the Bird' (c. 1883), 'Camilla' (1882), and 'Love Locked Out' (1889), which in 1890 became the first work of a woman artist to be purchased for the Tate Gallery, the museum that houses the national collection of British art. Merritt's 'Eve Overcome by Remorse' and a mural decoration for the Woman's Building at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago (1893) both won medals. In 1902 she published A Hamlet in Old Hampshire, a portrait of Hurstbourne Tarrant, her home from 1890. Merritt continued to exhibit at the Royal Academy until 1906. In 1981 "Love Locked Out: The Memoirs of Anna Lea Merritt" was published.
This hand signed lithograph was found discarded at an estate sale in Independence, Missouri. It was authenticated on April 17, 2006 by Dr. Burton L. Dunbar, member Appraisers Association of America. Estimated unframed insurance replacement value in 2006, $1000.00. Certificate included.
Others of the surviving prints exactly as this are currently on display in major art museums. This one has been professionally conservation framed to preserve it in it's current state. It has not been restored or altered in any way.

successfully sold dolls all over the country.
This doll is marked Made in Bali on the back. It is woven from some plant material
and the face is hand stitched. This would be a great addition to a folk doll collection.
I am asking $15.00 for this doll. She has been stored for many years and looks like
she was just made yesterday.

I am selling a hand made doll from Bali that was imported by the Kimport Company in
Independence, Mo. The dolls were sold in their catalog called "Foreign Folk Dolls."
I have a copy of one of their mailings that show this doll being offered for sale in 1944.
I bought this in a collection of Kimport Dolls and it has been packed away. The

I am selling a hand made doll from Bali that was imported by the Kimport Company in
Independence, Mo. The dolls were sold in their catalog called "Foreign Folk Dolls."
I have a copy of one of their mailings that show this doll being offered for sale in 1944.
I bought this in a collection of Kimport Dolls and it has been packed away. The
