F & W Check Protector circa 1940s w/keys!! Rare find!! (Eden Prairie) $110  ...more
Extremely rare find!!! This F & E Check Protector is in great condition for its age. (it is missing the tops of two of the number buttons.) Made and guaranteed by The Hedman Company of Chicago Illinois USA, written on the backside along with model No 503310. This model most likely dates to the 1940's. This tabulator style check protector was designed to prevent alteration of checks once hand or type written. The amounts are stamped into the surface of the check with exact dollar amounts, from depressing all those lovely keys, and cranking down the manual handle on the right. The F&E Check Protector Company, is still producing equipment of this type to this very day! Newer versions of this machine are still used in banks today!! Great nostalgic show piece for an accountants office or financier!

On the left side there is the original set of keys for this machine. When these keys are removed, the machine locks to prevent use from let's say, "unauthorized users" to imprint checks.

From F&E's website...

Company History

"In 1914, Hebert R. Hedman, a Chicago native with Swedish roots, borrowed $5,000 from his father to establish the Hedman Manufacturing Company. The firm was established to produce check protector machines that protect businesses from the common crime of forgery. Hedman's machine was the first check protector to write out the complete dollar amount with Arabic numerals in one simple operation. In addition, this first protector presented a patented process, engineered by Hedman, that printed the exact amount of the check by shredding and macerating indelible ink into the fibers of the paper. The results was a tamperproof document. Upon hearing about the Hedman Check Protector, Hedman's main competitor sent two men to attempt a buy out. Instead, these two men, Fessler & Evans, reached an agreement with Herbert Hedman to distribute his machines. This is the origin of the first "F&E"."

Int'l Silver, "Anniversary" silverplate flatware in original chest (Eden Prai...  ...more
24 pce. setting ( eight sets of knife, fork, and spoon) of the "ANNIVERSARY" silverplate flatware pattern by Int'l Silver. This pattern was manufactured b/w 1923-1973. This set is in the original silver chest and belonged to my grandmother. I think it was purchased in the 1940's . . . loved and well used for entertaining as well as by her fellow church ladies, as the church did not have silverplate available for important events during those years. It is freshly polished and very clean. I would rate the condition as very good to excellent for its age. I also have four tablespoons and one butter knife, all but two spoons are also in excellent condition ( 2 spoons slightly worn on the upper left edge, as it was used very often to stir the gravy in my Grandmother's chicken pot pie. )The SLVP # for this pattern is 42115. It has no monograms. I believe the knife handle is the "New French Hollow" style. The fork has a flat handle.

Please note: this is NOT solid silver, but rather silver plate, which means the base metal is another metal and dipped in silver. Great addition to an existing set of ANNIVERSARY silverplate. Will not break up the 24 pces. The appraised retail value is $250, and I WILL CONSIDER SERIOUS OFFERS ONLY, and expect to sell b/w $125-165. I expect that you would want to make an appt. to inspect the silverplate before buying.

WILL RESPOND ONLY to inquiries with a name AND phone with area code, due to high level of spammers. Will not answer your question as to whether this item is still available . . . if you are reading this, it is available. Thank you.
